Building Dreams: Expanding Lumos Maxima Educational Project

Dear Friends and Family:

We are a group of parents with a shared dream: to expand Lumos Maxima, the beloved youth association and forest educational project that our children currently attend, in the South of Portugal, Alentejo. We’ve seen firsthand how this project has sparked our children’s curiosity, creativity, a love for learning, and a profound respect for the earth. Today, we are reaching out to you with an exciting and heartfelt plea for support.

What is Lumos Maxima?

Lumos Maxima is more than just a learning environment; it’s a vibrant community where children learn to collaborate, communicate, and resolve conflicts as they work together on projects and navigate the natural environment. Our children come home each day brimming with stories of their adventures—discovering the intricate ecosystems of the forest, learning empathy as they care for the environment and each other, and developing skills that go far beyond traditional education.

They also learn in Portuguese and go out into the community, engaging with local people and places, further enhancing their real-world experiences and connections.

This is the kind of enriching education we believe every child deserves.

Why We Need Your Help: Expanding for the Future

We need to expand Lumos Maxima to accommodate more children as they grow older. After an extensive and challenging search, we have have been given, by a local municipality that believes in our project, an old school building. The future goal is that this building will become a private school to accompany the children after the 4th grade. Allowing them to continue their unique educational experience in a space designed to meet their evolving needs.

The Renovation Plans

This initial renovation for which we are fundraising for, aims to create a space for Lumos Maxima Youth association and initiate activities that will pave the way for establishing the school in the near future.

Renovating this building is a major undertaking, and unfortunately, there is limited financial support available. Without additional funding, we won’t be able to bring the building up to the necessary standards to transform it into a fully functioning school. We need all the support we can to make this vision a reality! The building requires several updates to become a safe, functional, and inspiring space.

Here’s what we need to accomplish:

* Repairing the Roof, Wall and Windows: To ensure safety and energy efficiency.

* Creating Modern Learning Spaces: Designing eco-friendly, well-equipped areas that blend seamlessly with our nature-based curriculum.

* Developing Outdoor Learning Areas: Building gardens, nature trails, and outdoor classrooms to enhance hands-on learning experiences.

How You Can Make a Difference

Somos um grupo de pais com um sonho comum: expandir o Lumos Maxima, a querida associação de jovens e projeto educativo que os nossos filhos frequentam atualmente. Temos testemunhado como este projeto tem despertado nos nossos filhos a curiosidade, a criatividade, o amor pela aprendizagem e um profundo respeito pela terra. Por este meio, viemos fazer um sincero apelo pelo seu apoio.

O que é o Lumos Maxima?

O Lumos Maxima é mais do que um ambiente de aprendizagem; é uma comunidade vibrante onde as crianças aprendem a colaborar, comunicar e resolver conflitos enquanto trabalham juntas em projetos e exploram o ambiente natural. As nossas crianças chegam a casa todos os dias repletas de histórias das suas aventuras—descobrindo os ecossistemas da floresta, aprendendo empatia ao cuidar do ambiente e umas das outras, e desenvolvendo competências que vão muito além da educação escolar tradicional.

As crianças aprendem em português e saem para a comunidade, envolvendo-se com as pessoas e lugares locais, enriquecendo ainda mais as suas experiências e conexões no mundo real.

Esta é o tipo de educação enriquecedora que acreditamos que toda a criança merece.

Porque Precisamos do Vosso Apoio? Para Expandir para o Futuro

Precisamos de expandir o Lumos Maxima para acomodar mais crianças à medida que crescem. Após uma pesquisa extensa e desafiadora, foi nos fornecido, por uma câmara municipal que acredita no nosso projecto, um antigo edifício escolar. O nosso objetivo futuro é renovar o edifício para estabelecer uma escola privada que dará continuidade à atividade da Lumos Maxima e atenderá às crianças após o 4º ano. Isto irá permitir-lhes continuar a sua experiência educativa única, num espaço projetado para atender às suas necessidades, acompanhando o seu desenvolvimento.

Os Planos de Renovação

Esta renovação inicial, para a qual estamos a angariar fundos, tem como objetivo criar um espaço para a associação juvenil Lumos Maxima e iniciar atividades que abrirão caminho para o estabelecimento da futura escola.

Renovar este edifício é um grande desafio e, infelizmente, há pouco apoio financeiro disponível. Sem financiamento adicional, não conseguiremos adequar o edifício aos padrões necessários para o transformar numa escola plenamente funcional. Precisamos de todo o apoio possível para tornar esta visão uma realidade!

O edifício precisa de atualizações para se tornar um espaço seguro, funcional e inspirador.

Aqui está o que precisamos realizar:

* Reparar o Telhado, as paredes e as janelas: Para garantir a segurança e eficiência energética.

* Criar Espaços de Aprendizagem Modernos: Projetar áreas bem equipadas e ecológicas que se integrem ao nosso currículo baseado na natureza.

* Desenvolver Áreas de Aprendizagem ao Ar Livre: Construir jardins, trilhos naturais e salas de aula ao ar livre para enriquecer as experiências de aprendizagem prática.
