Fundraiser for Platinum Cheer Association AED

Platinum Cheer Association just moved into a new facility and while this is exciting there are also challenges. One of the challenges is the acquisition of an AED for the exclusive use of the team in the building.

Having access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is of paramount importance for any cheer team, as it can mean the difference between life and death in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is a leading cause of death in the United States, affecting approximately 356,000 people annually, and its occurrence is not limited to specific age groups.

Cheerleading, being a physically demanding sport involving high-energy routines and stunts, carries inherent risks, making the presence of an AED even more critical. Prompt defibrillation within the first few minutes of an SCA increases the survival rate by as much as 70%, significantly enhancing the chances of a team member's survival and minimizing potential long-term consequences. By having an AED readily available during practices, competitions, and events, cheer teams can ensure the safety and well-being of their members, coaches, and spectators, demonstrating their commitment to proactive and responsible emergency preparedness. Pediatric sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a particularly alarming concern as it affects young individuals, often seemingly healthy children and adolescents.

Though relatively rare, the impact on families and communities can be devastating. In the United States alone, it is estimated that approximately 7,000 to 9,000 children experience SCA each year. Time is absolutely critical when it comes to responding to pediatric SCA. Children's hearts are generally more resilient than adult hearts, and many cardiac arrest episodes in children can be reversible if treated promptly. The chances of survival decrease rapidly with every passing minute, making it vital to act swiftly. For every minute that passes without defibrillation, the survival rate drops by about 7-10%, underscoring the importance of having an AED readily available in locations where children gather, including cheerleading practices and events.
