Kidney Transplant fundraiser for Rolando Dumandan
Story from the Patient’s Children (Joland & Hazzel)
Some time in May of 2019, we received a text stating that our dad had a heart attack. This was the day that started changing the landscape of our life as a family. Year 2020 began and as surprisingly difficult as it is for everyone, we thought we were sailing it harder than everyone else, approaching wave after wave after wave, brought about by this stormy season.
Due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine that lasted almost 3 months, we were not able to monitor my dad's health. When the community quarantine finally got a bit loose, we braved the high risks of succumbing to COVID-19 and had him checked. Then we learned that his kidneys were failing drastically.
Another month passed and his health got worse. At 57 years old, he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage 5. The recommended treatment of his doctor is kidney transplant which costs approximately 1.5 million pesos or 30,000 US dollars.
We're hoping that one of us (my brother or I) will be a match to be the donor. They will start the workup of both the donor and recipient in a week and that alone will cost around 150 thousand pesos or more. It will be a long series of tests and workup until we complete all stages needed for the operation.
Together, we can make this happen and restore one man's good quality of life! All funds will go directly to the expenses of the said kidney transplant operation including workup and post-operation care. Should there be any excess in the amount we are raising, we will be using them to help someone who is also in need of immediate medical care, assuring everyone donating that nothing will be used for expenses outside his medical care.
