Worldwide, thousands of children and teenagers have been abused by clergy. The damage done lasts a lifetime, but abuses are often swept under the rug by powerful religious organizations, and the abusers rarely face justice. But we can change that. With enough support, survivors of abuse can heal. With enough support, survivors can let their voices be heard and speak out against their abusers. With enough support, laws can be changed putting child-abusers, molesters, and child rapists behind bars. For too long, churches have operated without transparency or accountability. But with your help, that can change.

The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) is "the largest, oldest and most active support group for women and men wounded by religious and institutional authorities (priests, ministers, bishops, deacons, nuns, coaches, teachers, and others)."

SNAP's Mission:

SNAP is an independent, confidential network of survivors of religious sexual abuse and their supporters who work to protect the vulnerable, heal the wounded, and prevent the abuse. We expose predators and those who shield them. We build policies and practices within secular and religious organizations that protect children now and in the future. We share our stories and empower others to confront the truth. Together, we find healthy mechanisms for healing. We educate ourselves and our communities about the effects of abuse. We speak in a unified voice to bring about change by exposing the malignant actions of abusive religious ministers and the church officials who shield them.

Update: We're making this donation courtesy of Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League - who called SNAP a "phony victims group" and has repeatedly tried to whitewash the Catholic Church's scandals, has made excuses, and blamed the abuse on a “homosexual subculture.” More info here: Bill Donohue's Revolting Defense of the Vatican's Scandal. Imagine the look on Bill's face when he finds out that a bunch of atheists raised and donated thousands of dollars to SNAP in his name!
