Fundraiser for the Lumumba Family

Donation protected
Anako "Anette" Lumumba, age 33, was shot and killed last spring in South Burlington. The only suspect is her ex- boyfriend, who is yet to be apprehended.  Anette left behind 2 precious young daughters (ages 5 and 12) who are now being raised by their beloved grandmother, Marie Lushima.   The Essex Community Justice Center (ECJC) recently became aware that Anette's mother and daughters live in Essex. Part of the mission of the ECJC is to support people in the community who have been harmed by crime.  This family has been devastated.  We reached out to the family recently to offer our support and have decided to do a fundraiser to help support Anette's mother and children.  Here is their situation-

· Anette's mother is unable to work and has limited income.  She is a refugee from the Congo and has her own traumatic experiences to deal with, even before the murder of her daughter.

· In the aftermath of Anette's murder, Anette's mother is now raising her two grandchildren and is struggling with bills and expenses.

· Anette's children are likely to struggle this holiday season,  the first one without their mom, who worked hard to provide well for her children.

We want to help provide this family, who has experienced great trauma, with a warm and bountiful holiday season and a sense of community support and connection.  To that end, we’ve started a fundraising campaign to support them.

Who you are?  I'm the Director of the Essex Community Justice Center, located in Essex Junction, Vermont.
Where you're from?  We are located in Essex Junction, VT at 137 Iroquois Ave, Suite 101, Essex Junction, VT  05452
Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for?  Our organization supports community members harmed by crime.
How the funds will be used (be specific as possible)?  The funds will go directly to Anako's mother, who is now raising her two young grandchildren. The funds will assist the family in meeting their living expenses.  Prior to Anako's murder the grandmother lived alone.  She is unable to work due to disabilities.  She must find a larger apartment with her 2 granddaughters and be able to afford the increased expenses of raising 2 young girls.

This GoFundMe page was created in partnership with Anette’s Family.  They approved the content and the sharing of it publicly.  Their hope is that Anette’s children’s privacy will be respected.
