Fundraiser for Umzinto Secondary School

Hi there, my name is Sofia and I am a humanitarian worker. I have just returned to the UK after a two months volunteering period in South Africa. During my time in South Africa I had a the pleasure of volunteering at Umzinto secondary school, conducting projects with the students and the teachers. Umzinto Secondary school is located in one of the poorest and most crime filled areas of the region where poverty, drugs and alcohol abuse, violence and racism are a very true reality for the children and teachers. The school is 70 years old and it is falling apart. There are big holes in the windows and walls, every corner of the building is rusty and broken and no where near safe for the students. Water and power run out on a regular basis and old broken fans are the only means to fight the unbearable summer heat. It is an extremely difficult environment to learn and teach in and this a big reason why poor attendance and staff absence are big problems for this school. Speaking to the head teacher she expressed the deep need to source funds in order to fix some of the great issues that affect the school, she also expressed the extreme difficulty in finding these funds. I therefore decided to try and help the school raise money to support with creating a safer learning environment for the children and teachers. So I am reaching out to all of you!
