Fundraiser for Vince ♡ Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kristine and I'm the oldest step-daughter of Vince. He has been in our lives for 13 years as our mom's (Anne Lambert) partner/better half. He is "grandpa Vince" to all of our kids and we have been blessed to have his love and support in our family! He has a generous and giving heart, is hard-working and would give anyone needing help or support the shirt off his back or time in his day.
Sadly, Vince suffered a serious stroke on June 28th. He was medivaced up to Anchorage and is in the Neuroscience Ward at Providence.
Anne and Vince's sister, Issa, are able to be with him 8 hrs a day but only one person each day. He will not be able to have any other visitors while he's there. I was greatful to be able to spend time with him for his first two days there in the ER.
The great news is that Vince is very aware, understands what's going on, can communicate fine verbally and has good recall. Unfortunately, the stroke has left him without feeling or movement on his left side from the neck down. He has started working with PT, OT and Speech and he keeps at it throughout the day. His attitude is realistic but really positive. It's a good attitude for us all to have for him.
He is going to be moved to the St Elias Rehab within Providence , but is waiting to be medically stabilized and due to possible Covid exposure in his ward he has some more days of testing and observation before he can transfer.
We are being told he will be in rehab at St Elias anywhere between 2-4 weeks, but it's all to be determined by his progress.
Mom and Issa will be able to continue their alternating 8 hour days with him in rehab. His Doctors and Therapists put him on the list right away because they viewed him as a great candidate due to his cognition, motivation and willingness to work hard (if you know Vince, you know that!)
Mom and Issa have been staying in hotels in Anchorage, (bouncing around to where the best deals are) - mom is planning on bringing her pop-up campernup to Anchorage and using that as hotel prices are. Ridiculous in the summer and it's just not sustainable!
Mom and Vince will need to modify their driveway, entrance to the house (build a ramp) and make sure there are safety measures inside the house (handrails in the bathtub, etc) and could be looking at continuing/changing needs and supports (including vehicle modifications or upgrades depending on his mobility).
Any monetary donations will be used to cover the modifications at the house and the support needed to best enable Vince to take steps towards recovery and medical progress, in addition to supporting gas and lodging costs so that Mom (Anne) and Vince's sister Issa can continue to be in Anchorage supporting his recovery on a daily basis. Thank you for your prayers, good thoughts and any support you can give/offer. If you'd rather donate directly, reach out to one of us and we can help coordinate that. Our hope is to continue helping and supporting behind the scenes so that mom and Issa can focus on being there in person for Vince ♡
