Help Gwen & Lee Walker Return Home

Hi, my name is Damaris Fernandez, and I'm helping raise funds for my dear friends, Gwen and Lee Walker, from Dallas, TX. They are good people who are going through difficult times. In April 2022, Lee received a cancer diagnosis that led to surgery and high medical bills that they're still paying. Most recently, on August 22, 2022, they had an electrical fire at their house in Dallas. The fire caused part of their roof and the surrounding underlying bricks to cave in. They need to raise $5,000 to pay the home insurance deductible for the repairs to start and for them to return home. Unfortunately, they have not been able to secure that money despite their efforts, especially after the unexpected medical bills.

Gwen and Lee were fortunate to have been home when the fire started, allowing them to call 9-1-1 in time for the firefighters to save what could have been a total loss. However, the electrical power had to be shut down to prevent further igniting, and Gwen and Lee had to temporarily leave their home of 40 years.

We know times are hard for most of us, and asking for help from others is not easy. I know my dear friends would never ask for themselves, so I stepped up. Sometimes you need to let others know that you need their support. Together, we can make a difference.

Gwen is someone who has served as an advocate for those needing help due to a variety of difficulties. She’s raised funds to secure housing for the homeless and provided food to those dealing with food insecurity (especially during Covid-19). She has been there for those in the community needing help during emergencies. Gwen has served as a Teaching Assistant and a nurse’s assistant at a local elementary school, positively impacting young students. And she has, of course, supported her husband during his cancer treatment.

Living in a small hotel room is different from living at home. Especially with Lee not feeling well. Gwen and Lee want to return home as soon as possible and would appreciate any assistance you can provide to help them pay the insurance deductible. Thank you for reading their story.
