Fundraiser to help John Redfield

Hi, my name is Rick Redfield and I am fundraising for my brother, John Redfield, who lives in Orlando, Florida. John is an accomplished professional piano player who recently sustained a potentially devastating stroke, which required immediate surgery to relieve pressure from bleeding in his head before permanent brain damage occurred. The surgery was life saving and mostly successful but resulted in numerous side effects, including temporary inability to speak (now improving) and weakness on his right side. John spent time in intensive care, and eventually improved to the point where he was able to be transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation center for intense physical, occupational and speech therapy.

John is now home, but has to rebuild his life after this life-changing event. Prior to his stroke, his wife Karen, who was an outstanding singer and performed with John professionally, passed away. Later on, John was laid off from his consulting IT work, and depended on only his social security payments, and numerous music gigs around the Orlando, FL area. He also supplemented his income as an Uber driver. Due to the results of his stroke, he has lost the ability to supplement his social security payments. He will be facing many medical expenses (Medicare will only cover some of the costs), along with his other expenses.

John was a brilliant and gifted keyboard musician, showing a natural talent for piano early in our childhood. There were four brothers, and we all took piano lessons, but it was obvious early on that John had a special gift for music. He performed for many jazz and blues venues in the Chicago area, before moving to Orlando many years ago.

We hope many of his friends can rally around John during this critical time as he strives to recover whatever abilities he can. The family thanks any and all people who donate what they can to helping him out.
