On 13th September, David Burton-Sampson MP is walking the 17-mile boundary of his constituency of Southend West and Leigh to raise money for bleed control kits.
He has been working with Julie Taylor, who is distributing life-saving bleed kits right across Essex and raising awareness about knife-related violence.
The funds will go towards achieving Julie's goal of supplying a bleed kit to every venue that serves alcohol and to all secondary schools.
Julie’s grandson, Liam, 19, was tragically killed in Writtle in 2020, stabbed on a night out with friends, when there was no first aid equipment nearby. Julie set-up The Liam Taylor Legacy in his memory. The local scheme raises money to fund and distribute bleed kits across the Essex.
Each kit contains first aid equipment, with some stored in secure cabinets on the outside of buildings. They contain trauma dressings, gauze, chest seals and tourniquets help stop serious bleeding. They could not only help victims of violent crime but those involved in road traffic accidents or workplace accidents too.
