Fundraiser for William Watkins & Family

Hello, my name is DeAnna and I am a friend of William and Amanda. I am asking for help from our community as they are always willing to help others. William has a long road of recovery in front of him. He has been in the hospital since April 7th. You can read the details of William's medical nightmare from him below:

“I entered the hospital on April 7th for umbilical hernia and to remove a piece of colon and possibly piece of my intestine. That 4-hour surgery turned into 6.5 hours with removing another section that was badly scared. Came out of surgery fine. On April 9th, I started feeling pains that got worse and worse until Tuesday the 11th. April 11th, I had a CT and found out that the sutures used to connect the intestine and colon back together broke and I was filling up with bile and fecal matter. Another 3-hour surgery to wake up to an ileostomy bag and small intestine now still out of my belly. Immediate recovery was touch n’ go with the super strong possibility of going straight to the ICU. Fought through that surgery to be put into my own recovery room and sat for 3 days with a tube from my throat to stomach nonstop pumping bile out.

Lived on water swabs for 15 hours, then ice for 12, before graduating to liquids. On April 17th, I graduated to full food non-restrictive diet that I couldn't eat as I developed thrush from constant antibiotics and everything that touched my mouth set it on fire. Every day from there got better and better with a piece of bad news a day. Despite all that remained in great spirits and had all the nurses laughing and wishing they were assigned to me every day. Insurance has denied any help outside the hospital and all the burden of which falls on my longtime girlfriend Amanda.

April 21st, I received another CT with bad news. Another procedure must be done to remove and drain bile from my inside stomach lining. I'm missing the last month of my son's senior year and still have no strong exit date to get out of the hospital and try the next phase of my rehab and new lifestyle. Money will be used for general health care supplies needed after returning home, help for the household and family and for any other issues that may arise in missing work because of the constant care and attention I will be requiring.”
