Fundraiser for rescue SXM Paws in memory of Suzy
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Ralf Little and, along with my partner Lindsey, we have set up this GoFundMe to honor our Suzy—the sweetest pup either of us has known—by raising money for SXM Paws, the animal rescue group who helped bring Suzy into our lives, while also helping countless other dogs like Suzy to receive the love, support, and safety that they need.
If you're reading this, it's possible that you know me for my role as DI Neville Parker on BBC One's Death in Paradise, which is filmed on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Since joining the series in 2019, I've spent enough time in the Caribbean for it to feel like a second home - even when I'm not filming, my partner Lindsey and I enjoy exploring its many islands, and our annual trips to St. Maarten have become a tradition.
However, as animal lovers, it has been hard for us to turn a blind eye to the countless stray dogs on the islands' streets. Dora was one of these "street dogs" when she happened to wander onto the set of Death in Paradise and, from there, into mine and Lindsey's hearts. A year later, we also found and fell in love with Suzy, another stray dog on the island, who was barely even able to walk at the time due to the severe neglect she had faced.
Of course, as we were about to take Dora and Suzy back to the U.S. with us, we found out that there were hoops to jump through. With no clear guidelines available, it was through connecting with SXM Paws, an animal rescue group in St. Maarten, that we ultimately were able to figure how to bring Dora and then Suzy home. Not only did the members of SXM Paws explain the steps we needed to take, but they actually executed many of the steps alongside us, readily helping with everything from driving Dora to her flight to the U.S. and advising on how to get Suzy on a plane.
When our little Suzy tragically passed away this year, we wanted to give back to this organization. Because SXM Paws is entirely run by volunteers and does not profit off of their work, they are dependent on the donations and charity of others.
100% of donations received will be given to SXM Paws and used to help rescue, foster, and provide medical treatment to as many stray animals as they are able to care at any given time. They help their animals flourish and find stable homes.
Suzy was the quintessential street dog story: the perfect example of a puppy that we found scared, starving, and barely surviving… but as we nursed her back to health, she became the sweetest, most caring companion anyone could ever wish for. Obedient, loving, smart, well behaved, calm. She was the best puppy, even if her life was too brief.
SXM Paws helps gives dogs the same opportunity that we gave to Dora and Suzy; taking them off the street and giving them a beautiful life. When we found Suzy, she was malnourished, and had been thrown away into a heap of trash; by the end, she'd eaten fine steak, traveled across oceans, and finally was living in the home she should have always had.
Right now, there are many more dogs with the same capacity to love living on the streets of the Caribbean. If you were one of the people who followed Suzy's story, please consider donating to this amazing organization. Or adopting one of their dogs.
