Fundraiser-Maritza Walton-Rebuild Her Business

The National Society of Black Wedding & Event Professionals (NSBWEP ) has established this GoFundMe account to raise funds for one of our Members, Maritza Walton, owner of The Ritz-Walton Wedding Collection. Martiza established her floral design company in the New Jersey area to create unique and sophisticated designs for her clients. She has been very successful in building her brand and pleasing her clients.

 

In late August, the Gulf and East Coast was hammered by Hurricane Ida, a deadly and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane that became the second-most damaging and intense hurricane to hit Louisiana. The storm traveled up the East Coast and transitioned into a post-tropical cyclone as it accelerated through the northeastern United States, breaking multiple rainfall records in various locations before moving out into the Atlantic. The remnants of the storm produced a destructive tornado outbreak and catastrophic flash flooding in the Northeastern United States on September 1. Flooding in New York City prompted the shutdown of much of the transportation system.

 

The flooding impacted and destroyed Maritza's floral design shop; completely destroying everything inside to include decor she had prepared for client events. Not only did this destroy her newly-standing establishment (she has been in her brick and mortar location since 2017), it also was the second time her location faced tragedy and had to rebuild. In 2019, she was faced with another catastrophe; her location was damaged by a building fire. Maritza did not allow the fire to dampen her spirits, instead she came back stronger and build out her location by leasing the location next door so she could have a larger location to host training seminars for aspiring floral designers and to host private events with her new flower/coffee Bar . In less than two years, Hurricane Ida arrived and laid another vicissitude of fortune. And not to forget in 2020, along with everyone COVID impacted all businesses financially.

 

We are calling on the wedding and events industry/community to come together to help support one of our own!
