FUNDRAISING FOR FLO
Donation protected
Flo is a 7 year old – she is unlike any other 7 year old girl you will have met before. She has a real passion for saving the planet, she is wise beyond her years and for the last 18 months, she has been battling a rare form of childhood cancer called High Risk Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma affects only about 100 children a year in the UK and it is particularly rare in children over 5 years old. Anyone that knows Flo will tell you that she (and her family) have faced this battle with dignity and grace and everyone should ‘Be More Flo!’
Since Flo was diagnosed, she has undergone surgery to remove the tumour in her adrenal gland. She has faced countless sessions of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, several general anaesthetics, countless injections, MRI scans, CT scans, MIBG scans. For every treatment she has, she is given a little bead and it is fair to say, she has so many that is impossible to wear them all.
Following Flo’s diagnosis in 2021, a GoFundMe was set up for her family in order to help with costs that are associated with caring for a child with cancer – fuel costs, parking charges, accommodation costs, costs of living when at least one parent is unable to work – but quickly the fundraising goal changed. There was a chance that Flo may be eligible for life saving treatment in America, which came with the price tag of £250,000. Her family, friends and community got to work and to date, we have raised just under £130,000.
Whilst the family were hopeful for the treatment in America, they have always known it could only be accessed if Flo matched certain criteria and one of those was that she reached remission. Sadly, at the beginning of this year (2023), following her 18 months of treatment and at the point where the family were going to ‘ring the bell’ to signify the end of it, it was discovered that Flo had relapsed and there was new cancer in her shoulder and lymph nodes. This has meant that Flo has undergone further surgery and currently she is receiving more chemotherapy. Sadly, it means that Flo is no longer eligible for treatment in America.
Despite this, her family and friends still want to raise as much money as we can. Flo may be eligible for other treatments that are UK based and the family will need to relocate on a temporary basis. Also, aside from paying for the essentials, Flo’s family, friends and community would love to see Flo, her Mummy & Daddy and her little sister use the money towards family days outs, trips, holidays and anything else that puts a smile on Flo’s face and makes this journey a little more bearable.
There are lots of fundraising activities taking place so please keep donating.
Keep fighting Flo – we are all right behind you!
