Fundraising for funeral of Geelong Tamil Refugee
Donation protected
My name is Nithi and I am a Tamil refugee. We lost our dearest friend Samy on the 20th of November 2022 when he died of a heart attack. I am raising funds to enable Samy’s body to be returned to his wife and daughter in Sri Lanka for burial. Samy's photo is shown here.
Samy, a young Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seeker living in Geelong, died suddenly from a heart attack. He came to Australia 10 years ago to seek refuge from persecution. He had hoped to be granted a protection visa and eventually bring his wife and daughter to safety. But Samy waited 10 years without being granted the visa he needed. He worked hard to support his family back home and tried to keep their hopes alive for a future of peace and safety together. Now those hopes have been lost forever and Samy’s grieving wife has expressed her wish to have her husband’s body returned to their village in Sri Lanka for burial.
Please donate urgently to this appeal if you are moved to help towards the funeral expenses. This is a family who desperately needs our help. Any excess money raised will be sent to Samy’s family in Sri Lanka.
