Giant Mumia Puppet
Puppets change perceptions. Puppets help change the world.
You can help change the perception and Free Mumia Abu Jamal and other political prisoners.
Mumia Abu Jamal, is an internationally renowned writer and political prisoner.
He is the voice of the voiceless. He is also an award-winning journalist. Mumia has published 13 books during his nearly 40 years of imprisonment. Prison is a breeding ground to Covid 19 which create other problems.
Like hundreds of thousands of incarcerated people in our country, Mumia was exposed to Covid-19. He also developed a serious heart condition and had open heart surgery. Prior years earlier, he had hepaticas C and serious skin conditions.
Mumia's health and immune system remain compromised. It is urgent that we get him out now!
The 18ft Giant Mumia Puppet draws attention to Mumia's case and the urgency of his situation wherever it goes.
The puppet brings understanding, love, compassion, and strength.

"For those of us who pursue truth and justice, Mumia Abu Jamal is a symbol of one who has freed himself “from mental slavery.” More than an internationally recognized journalist and political prisoner, he is the captured leader of the global freedom movement. Jacqueline Wade’s magnificent puppet is an inspiration for all who refuse to give up the struggle for truth, justice and freedom for all.”

Donation:
The Giant Mumia Puppet has already attracted additional attention to his case.
Your donation can help the Mumia puppet and Mumia himself walk free among the people.
We need to raise $11,000.
We would like to bring the Giant Puppet to at least eight major events this fall, winter and into the Spring because of the attention it draws. We also need to cover past expenses.
However, maintaining, fixing, storing, and transporting the puppet along with other expenses including past expenses from the puppet,
cost money and time. We need your help.
The GoFundMe helps to pay for rental of truck to transport giant Mumia Puppet to marches, rallies and demonstration locations.
It also helps with payment for the driver, payment for two roadies who travel with the puppet, gas, tolls, parking lot expenses, food for travel, hotel expenses for out of town marches, towards rental of workshop space where Mumia is maintained and fixed, storage space in Brooklyn, NY for puppet. It also helps with any maintenance expenses for the puppet's upkeep. This also includes payment of an assistant to help me out with the maintenance and upkeep of the puppet. It also helps go towards initial cost of material for the building of the giant
Mumia puppet along with other costs involved in creating the puppet.

The puppet draws a great deal of positive attention and support wherever it goes.
Here is a quote from Joe Piette, Community Activist, Photographer and Writer:
“An 18-foot tall puppet of Mumia Abu-Jamal was the highlight of a protest on July 3 at a rally in Philadelphia: “In the spirit of Consuewella Africa! We must all MOVE to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal & All Political Prisoners.”
Jacqueline Wade from Women of Color Productions, Inc. Harlem, New York,
originated the concept, designed it, sculpted it, and was also the lead builder
on the puppet project. The Philadelphia event was the first public participation of the Mumia puppet."
"When the rally ended and the rain stopped, the puppet was moved to the spot once occupied by the statue of Philadelphia’s former racist
police commissioner and mayor, Frank Rizzo.
The puppet drew a lot of attention from participants and passersby alike. One could see the puppet a mile away. This was a positive
showing of social impact and equity.” Joe Piette, Community Activist, Photographer and Writer

Poem:
This is a powerful poem that Julia Wright, daughter of writer Richard Wright wrote about the puppet.
GENTLE GIANT MUMIA -- a poem to Jacqueline Wade
To Jacqueline Wade
you let us know
with the gentle giant
Mumia puppet
you created
that we
and only we
are the puppeteers
of his liberation
you tell us
that when we carry
the moveable
masterpiece
of his unshackled presence
we are the sole designers
of his release
As we feel
his live weight
in the wind
we
only we
draw the strings
that will activate
his Freedom
