Fundraising for my visa fees
Donation protected
Hi everyone, thanks for checking out my GoFundMe campaign. I hate doing this but I'm at the point now where I need help. If you don't know me or my situation very well, I moved to the UK from Malaysia back in 2016 and went to college in Devon. After completing sixth form, I went on to study Liberal Arts and Film TV studies at the University of Bristol, before ultimately moving to London last summer to start my dream career in the Film and TV industry.
Throughout my time at college and uni, I was living in the country under student visas before transferring over to a graduate visa after uni, which I applied for in 2021 and lasts for two years. Now, my graduate visa is finally about to expire in October and after 7 years of living in this country, I'm at a crossroads.
Unfortunately, after much research and attending legal counsel, the only option left available to me to be able to stay in the country, as well as continue working freelance in the Film and TV industry, is a visa called the Global Talent Visa. There are several eligibility requirements to this visa and the two main requirements are that I have to evidence that I've worked on a Film that has been awarded/nominated for an Oscar, Emmy, BAFTA, or similar prestigious award, and that the visa costs a total of £2,500.
My career journey since graduating from uni in 2021 wasn't the smoothest, but after over a year of trying, networking, and applying for hundreds of jobs while working other odd jobs, I finally got my first job in the industry last September. Work was still spotty after this, but I was finally able to make the transition to Film and HETV this year in February, with almost consistent work. But unfortunately, with the current Hollywood strikes, work has dried up and my career is currently in another standstill and I need help to apply for this new visa so that I can stay in the country.
I'm trying to raise the £2,500 for the visa application as I'm applying for this in the first week of October before the government raise the application fees and I would appreciate any help. The Global Talent Visa also lasts for 3 years, and as I've lived in the country for the past 7 years, I would also be able to apply for ILR (settlement) in the country after the Global Talent Visa's term ends as the requirement for ILR is to live in the country for 10 continuous years.
Thank you for reading this far and, if you're able to help in any way at all, I'd appreciate your help immensely. Thanks again, everyone.
