Fundraising for University Settlement Reopening!
Tax deductible
Hello! My name is Dahlia Roe, and I am a 10th grader at the High School of American Studies. Since 2017 I have been volunteering with University Settlement, a community organization in the Lower East Side, which provides educational support and social services to over 1,500 young children and families.
With three Early Head Start programs and four early childhood centers in Manhattan and Brooklyn, preparing children ages 3-5 academically and socially to enter school, they are an invaluable asset to NYC.
----
Naturally, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected their early childhood programs. While they have quickly transitioned to remote learning, they are looking ahead to plan how to safely provide in-person programming.
To establish this plan, they would like to provide each child in their Early Childhood Centers with a pair of “school shoes” to be worn only in the classroom.
Young children are curious about the world, constantly engaging with new surroundings, and often touching things can spread germs.
With the provision of these shoes, they hope to keep any germs and dirt outside the classroom.
Looking to supply school shoes for 320 children is no simple task, especially with funding for NGOs being reduced across the nation.
I am hoping to raise $6000 to support USS in raising funds to purchase 350 pairs of shoes.
