Fundraising for Varnus Organ Hall in Nova Scotia
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
During the summer of 2020, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, I embarked on realizing my greatest dream, and thus the greatest adventure of my life, when I bought an ancient church and a magnificent Casavant Organ on the Canadian Atlantic coast to create a heavenly place for organists and music fans. My plan is to host a permanent festival within the beautiful 19th century church walls after the pandemic travel restrictions are lifted. The church will provide a worthy home for the festival and for musicians, famous virtuosi and young talents alike, from around the world to perform. Varnus Hall will host not only organ recitals, but also piano and chamber music concerts.
I set myself three goals. I could give a lot to the lovable people of this magical, Victorian-era fairyland; I could do a lot to help musicians who have been through difficult financial situations as a result of the pandemic; and, I could bring joy to all music lovers who can listen and see these concerts online. Starting December 30, 2020, we will be launching an online fundraising concert series. Although I have already completely renovated the interior of the church, purchased and installed the great pipe organ from my personal financial resources, last month’s huge windstorm tore off the cladding of the church tower and the sections of siding continue to fall off in large pieces every hour. As such the exterior renovation of the building cannot be delayed much longer. We would like to update the electrical memory system of the 43 years old organ also.
I found an early 20th century photo of the building that showed the church originally covered in red brick. It is my big dream to restore the church to its original form. Funds from the fundraising concerts are needed to cover the estimated $48,500 cost of the exterior renovations. If you think you can offer a donation, it would be of great help to us be able to showcase this remarkable building in its glorious, original form at the first concerts after the pandemic.
Thank you in advance for your generous support.
