Funds for My Continued Care
Donation protected
This is a very hard one for me. My beloved husband entered hospice care on Monday after fighting with all his might against esophageal cancer. He has very little time left and this took us by surprise. We thought he had more time left. He has been my rock for nearly 29 years and I want to honor his wishes to be cremated. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds and the VA will only pay for burials. I am also in need of funds to cover home health care as I have been bed-bound since 2019 and my husband has been my primary caregiver. Any donations received will only be used for the cost of his cremation or to pay the CNA who has been caring for me. All I can offer you in return is my heartfelt thanks.
For those of you not familiar with our story...
Pat and I have been together for almost 29 years and married for almost 12. In February 2019, a severe case of cellulitis and a very bad wound on my foot resulted in a full-blown case of sepsis. I had to receive antibiotics via IV as well as endure daily debridement of the wound to remove the necrotic tissue. After 7 months I was finally able to go home, but was left unable to walk. That entire time, Pat has been my caregiver. He has been responsible for feeding me, keeping me clean, and seeing to my biological needs. You name it, he has done it for me. On Valentine's Day 2022, we got that call that no one ever wants to receive. The endoscope he recently had found advanced esophageal cancer. Treatment was started and the hope was that once the tumors shrunk enough, surgery could be performed to remove any remaining cancer. He underwent several different courses of different treatments, but the cancer was aggressive and in addition to not responding, a new tumor was found in his liver. Earlier this year, we were told that he likely also has emphysema. This past Monday, 21 August 2023, his condition suddenly took a sharp turn for the worse and he was placed into hospice care. His body is slowly shutting down and he could pass at any time. I am in the process of trying to be approved for assistance through the state, but that is filled with red tape and a lengthy process. Until I am approved, I have to pay out of pocket for a CNA to come help me on a daily basis with all of the things that Pat used to do for me.
I am blessed and eternally thankful for the moral support and love I receive both from my friends and my World of Warcraft gaming community. I am fortunate to have a guild that is like family and helps me out both in the game and out.
