My mother's treatment for rare Cancer (EBV associated DLBCL)

Hi All,

My name is Julie K Thomas, and I am doing this fundraiser for my mother (Sunumole) who is diagnosed with Stage 3 EBV positive Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma in KIMS Cancer Care Centre, Kerala, India.

My mother is a homemaker and has no insurance coverage. My sister is a student and I work in Canada. The diagnosis has been a huge blow to our family of three, emotionally and financially, especially since we lost our father to COVID-19 only a few years ago.

In June ‘24 my mother was admitted to the hospital with severe fever and swollen lymph nodes all over her body. Later, she was diagnosed with this rare cancer. The presence of the EBV virus made her health condition worse and ended up with acute kidney failure. She had been admitted to the hospital and ICU several times due to multiple infections.

In August ‘24, she developed a big tumour in her brain, which was operated on and taken out without any complications. By the end of September, She recovered to a point where she would only need to take Chemo Sessions until December.

However, things went south-side for her recently. On 28th October, she was admitted again to the ICU with a Ventilator. Her blood counts and blood pressure were dangerously low. She has developed pneumonia in her lungs and couldn’t breathe on her own.

Up to this point, we have managed to cover the treatment costs amounting to 30 lakhs INR (CAD$50K). We were able to manage funds until now with my salary, savings, & family help. Despite our best efforts, we are now facing severe financial strain and are struggling to manage the ongoing hospital expenses as I am the only source of income in my family.

This journey has been emotionally tiring for both me and my sister as I live miles away from her and my younger sister has to manage everything and be her primary caretaker. Every day has been a struggle as we try to balance our hope for her recovery with the overwhelming financial burden. We are now facing an enormous challenge in continuing her treatment.

Until now, my mother has bravely fought back cancer and infections like a warrior. However, to continue the treatment we expect an additional CAD$50k. I have set up this gofundme page to support my mother’s treatment. Every contribution will make a difference in helping my mom fight this battle for our family.

Also, pray for her recovery. Hopefully, the higher power may listen to millions of people.
