Ashlyn Paige is the middle of my three children. She just had her fifth birthday on April 19th! Her older brother Zachary is in heaven and her little sister is at home with us, and healthy. Ashlyn and her big brother have the same rare disease, Niemann Pick Type C. The disease is also known as Childhood Alzheimers. 30% of children with rare diseases will not live to see their 5th birthday, Zachary did not. Ashlyn is still here with us and fighting every day to stay.
There are some new treatments that are starting to become available for this disease and we hope that we can keep Ashlyn with us long enough for one of them to be approved by the FDA. Unfortunately, we have a lot of medical bills and costs associated with caring for a special needs child. We would like to be able to do much more for her. Funds would help us be able to get additional equiptment for Ashlyn and let her experience more things.
