Carlos'(Charlie) Mom, Amanda Martinez, was born with kidney disease. She had her first transplant in early 40s, unfortunately, it began to fail and was on dialysis for a couple of years. In 2008, at the age of 52, Amanda had another transplant donated by her sister. It was a success, but the medications caused her to have very low immune system, and eventually led to diabetes. From then on she was on both transplant and diabetic treatments. Fortunately, she was able to keep the kidney for 12 years.
On March 24th, 2020, she asked Carlos to take her to the emergency room because she had difficulty eating, drinking and breathing. She also had recurrent pneumonia which caused her to cough even when she was not sick. At the time of admission, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Less than 24 hours in, she was put into medically induced coma and then was tested positive with COVID-19 a couple days later. The doctor and nurses tried every possible medication including the latest drugs/methods that have cured many COVID-19 patients. Due to her prexisting illnesses and chronic medical conditions, her body could not process all the medications that were given to her. The doctor said that if she had a normal immune system she would have survived.
The doctor informed the family that her condition was continuing to get worse, even if she miraculously survived, she would be living in a way that she would have never wanted. The family decided to let her go.
Amanda had two children, Carlos (34) and Julio (24).

Amanda was very kind and selfless. She would made sure everyone was fed. Even though she had health issues, she cared more about others than then her own. She would be very much missed.
It was Amanda's wish to be buried at the Rose Hills Mortuary. This fundraiser is to help the family get through the process during this difficult time. The funds include, property purchase, valt, casket, headstone, transfer of remains, memorial setting, memorial care, opening and closing, funeral coach (automobile), refrigeration, funeral director, staff, permit and death certificate.
Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
