Funeral and medical expenses for Iris Meda
This Gofundme is to raise funds for Nursing Scholarships in honor of Iris Meda, beloved mother, wife, and sister. Iris is a hero who paid the ultimate price in her dedication to training nurses. She was a registered nurse whose earthly body succumbed to Covid-19 after contracting the virus when she came out of retirement at the age of 70 years, to help train aspiring nurses to meet the needs of our community.
Iris graduated from New York City College in 1984 and was devoted to the nursing profession until she retired from North Texas Job Corps in January 2020. With the Covid-19 pandemic beginning shortly after her retirement, and the need for experienced nurses to train aspiring nurses, Iris decided to help teach Nursing Skills for Collin College at Anna High School and Allen High School. It was during this time that she contracted Covid-19 in her classroom. She tested positive on October 14th, 2020 and was hospitalized by October 17th, 2020. Iris transitioned to heaven on November 14th, 2020, exactly one month after testing positive.
Iris was a giving, upbeat person that lit up any room she was in . Her positivity helped her survive a lot of challenges in her life, including losing one of her two daughters, Tanya Meda Bui, to cancer in June 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Selene Meda Schlamel. Iris loves Jesus with all her heart and we believe she is enjoying eternity in His presence. The celebration of her life will be at Covenant Church McKinney on Saturday. December 5, at 12:00 PM. We would be grateful for generous donations to create a scholarship fund that will be a lasting legacy for Iris Meda. Iris was passionate about education and this will be a befitting tribute to her.
