Funeral Cost For My Father - Jeff Goolsby
Donation protected
**Update: Dad passed away on 6/6/2020. I wanted to thank everyone who has given. We have reached our goal for my father's expenses and to help my mother's car bill. Thank you everyone! I have disabled donations. Much love to everyone.
It's with a heavy heart that I write this. I wanted to reach out to my friends and family for assistance for my Father's funeral. I have created this GoFund me now to help alleviate the pain and cost of having to set up a funeral after he passes. This way my family and I can grieve without this additional burden.
Back in December of 2018, my Father started having seizures which he had never experienced before. This caused him to miss Christmas and had him held up in the hospital for a couple of weeks. We were hopeful this would just be a small bump in the road, but in January of 2019, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, which is a brain cancer that is ultimately incurable. Our family was crushed. We all have shed many tears because of this situation. As many of you may know, he's been completing Chemo treatment, radiation, and had 2 brain surgeries in the past 17 months to help fight the disease. He has been so strong during this whole process and we were hopeful he would be one of the few that actually somehow beat this nasty disease with the help of God and the doctors. Personally, I was praying hard he could make it to my wedding on June 13th, but that, unfortunately, won't be the case. Most of these procedures have seemed to help him until just recently. He tried so hard and even in the past few weeks he never wanted to give up chemo.
Having him with us through all of 2019 was a blessing and we tried to take advantage of every moment. The picture above was him on his birthday in November. He loves Krispy Kreme, so he got to enjoy a little Krispy Kreme "Cake" we created for him. We were able to take him on trips to Florida to see family and friends. We also took him to concerts, monster truck rallies, rides on boats, and trips to see friends. All of these events were special in their own way and we are just thankful we had this time to spend a little with the man we love so dearly. We knew the clock was ticking, so we tried to make the most of it. It was especially nice to have him this last Christmas at home, so he could enjoy it with our family since he didn't remember the previous one.
In the past 2 months, he has started to decline dramatically. Starting with a seizure back in April. Since that time, he has lost all use of his right side and his ability to talk has been limited to simple answers like yes and no. Every now and then he can say a little more, but it is often hard to understand exactly what he is referencing. These past 2 months have been some of the hardest of my life and my family's. Seeing your hero in such a helpless state is mind-numbing and something I hope anyone reading this would never have to deal with.
My father was an amazing person and if you are reading this then I hope you have met him because I know you would agree. He was fun, always joking, loving person, who was energetic about life. We know when he passes on he will be with the lord, which has given us some comfort, but no matter what, this is a hard situation and I appreciate you at least taking the time to read this. And if you do give, then my family and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
The funds I am requesting are for the following items. Anything extra given past $8k, I plan on giving my mother to help pay down the mortgage on their house and medical bills from his fight:
Services: $3,770
Casket: $995
Tomb Liner: $1,300
Plot: $600
Opening and closing burial: $1,095
Additional fees: $195
This equals a total of $7,995.
I would love to raise another $67,000 for my mother's home, but didn't want to ask too much. So any additional will go to this.
I, Cody Goolsby, will be handling the funds of this and I've already called around the find the best prices possible. If you know me, then you know that is true. I thank you for reading this far and whether you give or not, please just have our family in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this very difficult moment in our life.
