Adèle-Marie was 31 years old when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, unfortunately her short battle has come to an end.
In August of 2021 Adèle began experiencing severe vaginal bleeding and intense pains, she acted quickly and performed all the correct paths towards getting help. She visited A&e several times where she was sent away or told to take pain killers and see what happens.
On another visit to A&e the nurses thought she had a pulmonary embolism and wrongly prescribed her blood thinners which just made the bleeding far worse, once again she was sent away with no answer. Eventually she managed to get a gynaecologist appointment in which during the examination the doctor sent her away as it was causing her too much pain, rather than investigating why it was causing her this pain.
After many more A&e appointments and scans we discovered shadowing and nodules in her lungs liver and stomach which were caused by the cancer in her cervix that had spread. The cancer went undiagnosed for a long time as the NHS had not conducted the proper channels of investigation to find the source of this intense bleeding and clots, which are the most common symptom of Cervical cancer.
3 weeks ago we were told for certain it was cervical cancer and it wasn’t treatable, but the oncology department at the hospital were certain they could treat and shrink the tumours to prolong Adèle’s life. She had an appointment the following Thursday which was pushed back due to scan results not coming in quick enough. In the time between then and the new appointment this Thursday, Adèle was taken in an ambulance and admitted to hospital as her breathing had become increasing worse and she was suffering from intense back pain. During her time here she was neglected furthermore by the nurses who were abhorrently rude to her, left her in a pool of her own vomit for two hours, forced her to eat food that was inedible and then furthermore proceeded to talk loudly in the corridors about her.
She could hear all of this all while suffering in silence with no family around her. She was discharged on the Wednesday and managed to make it halfway up the stairs to her flat before she began experiencing stroke like symptoms, her face dropped on one side, she couldn’t speak properly and she lost sensation on the right side of her body. Again we had the ambulance crew take her back to hospital.
Little did we know this would be the last time we saw Adèle conscious, early hours of Thursday morning we got the news that the cancer had spread from her lungs to her brain. Before Adèle was discharged the previous evening she was prescribed blood thinners as it was thought she had a pulmonary embolism, these blood thinners then proceeded to burst the tumours in her brain and causing her to haemorrhage and irreversible damage and leave her unconscious. The previous Monday Adèle underwent another MRI scan, we believe that if her appointment wasn’t pushed back then that scan would’ve shown these tumours and something may have been able to do, we have reqeuested all documentation and results from this.
This morning Friday the 4th of March my beautiful big sister Adèle-Marie passed away at only 31 years old. She was surrounded by her family and her Fiancè who loved her very much and we are all extremely devistated by these happenings and the constant medical negligence the whole way through.
She had a pure zest for life and wanted to live, she begged and pleaded with Doctors for months to help her but she was sent away time and time again, and now it has cost her, her life. Cervical cancer cells lay dormant for 5 years before they metastasise into tumours, in 2018 Adèle underwent a smear test in which the nurse told Adèle she couldn’t find her cervix. All of a sudden the nurse was finished with the examination and sent Adèle a way.
Her results came back negative, which clearly wasn’t the case. Her dying wish was to make sure this never happens to another woman again and myself and my family will not stop until Justice has been given to Adèle and all the other innocent women who have suffered and will suffer the same fate.
She urges every one to get tested privately as you cant put a price on your life and it is worth every penny to ensure your health is where it should be. We would like to give Adèle the send off she deserves, and unfortunately that comes with a large cost, we don’t expect anyone to donate but please, please get checked and share Adele’s story.
Any proceedings left over will be donated to Macmillan Cancer support and The Donkey Sanctuary
Thank you.
