IRVING STANLEY
1986-2020

In life, there are those that pass among us that leave their mark. They touch us and impress upon us that life can be just about the joy of living – that was Irving Stanley. With deep sadness, we, his family, must tell you of Irv’s passing. Irv needs to return to the earth from whence he came, yet we do not have the means to give Irv the sendoff he deserves.

We don’t know what to say or where to start. All we know is that we lost a member of our family who had a profound impact on us, his friends, and our community.

A proud member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, the son of Patrick and Valentina Stanley, Irv loved all of his family, relatives and friends, especially his grandmother Genevieve Cadmus.

Irv had many talents. Most of all, he was an artist and he had a certain flair. He was a master of computer graphics. Irv was known for creating fliers and signs, but each one was really a work of art. Locals, polititians and celebrities alike, even one of America’s Next Top Models – everyone looked to Irv to create a design and a message that would stand out.

Irv’s art included his voice. What a singer he was. He and his friends would hit up all the karaoke places, wherever they could find one. The joy of singing was his. His interpretations spoke to love, friendship, and travel. He was legendary for singing Proud Mary, Midnight Special, Drift Away, Never Been to Spain, Have You Ever Seen the Rain and many, many more. He was a great fan of X Factor, and should have been a contestant, because he had chops like no other.

Irv’s art was also his sense of fashion. He had a sense of style. He wore Michael Kors, cardigan sweaters and pea coat jackets. Even though Apache and from a small Reservation, Irv could easily fit in New York City. If you saw him, you might mistake him for a fashion designer, a poet, a screen writer, an actor, or that night club singer.

Irv embodied friendship. Irv was known for sparking a conversation with anyone. From his open, happy way, always smiling and engaging, Irv touched the lives of countless people, and had many, many friends from all over the world.

Deep down, Irv was a traveler. He enjoyed driving to places he’d never been to. Some would let him use their car just so he could enjoy the road and see the sights.

Finally, Irv was a foodie. He loved the art of food itself. Of all man’s creations, Asian food was his favorite. Irv loved Asian food so much he practically ate it every day. When the Bloom Restaurant opened in Globe, it was like heaven had arrived. Irv even got into cooking Asian food. He knew the spices, rice, noodles, and sauces like a master chef.

Even if you did not know him, Irv is one of those in life who made the world a better place. He would have rubbed shoulders with you if he could; engaged you with his smile and his banter. You would have loaned him your car, or even taken him on that trip to wherever the road may lead.

Certainly, Irv’s heart and life will live on among all those he touched, and even those he didn’t. It is our hope and prayer that you can contribute what you can for Irv’s funeral. God bless you and, as we say in our Apache language,
from our family
Ahi’yi’é (thank you).
