Funeral for Angela & Future for her Daughter

Donation protected

On Monday, April 27th, at N. Denny St. in Indianapolis, IN, Angela Johnson Summers was attacked, chased, and gunned down in cold blood in the course of her duties as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. As she lay on a neighbor's porch (she was also a resident of the same neighborhood), a young woman sat with her after the assailant fled. Police responded quickly and administered aid. Angela was still responsive and speaking to the officers though one of her lungs had collapsed. When the paramedics carried her ono the ambulance, she gave her concerned client neighbors a thumbs up.  At the hospital she was rushed into surgery, but despite the quick actions of everyone involved, she died of the massive traumas she endured heroically.

She never got the opportunity to tell her daughter that she loved her one last time. Her teen daughter never got to say " I love you" or even goodbye to her mother. My name is Mel Davis, Angela was my ex, our daughter wasn't able to see her for a-month-and-a-half due to the coronavirus travel restrictions and Angela's essential worker exposure risk. Now, she never will.

We were notified by a dear friend of Angela's that she was shot, and from my brother that she had died. At 45, she thought she'd have more time. I am honored to be the person to carry out her last wishes; however, between her life insurance and our own limited resources, we are still considerably short of what we need to bury a passionately dedicated mother, neighbor, postal worker, union steward, church councilwoman, and friend who was senselessly and violently ripped away from this world early and so suddenly her house has the feeling she might just walk back in any minute.

On top of funeral home and plot costs and fees, we need to pay another month on her rent and bills to have time to sort through all that remains of her life., rent a truck to carry away the things our daughter can hold on to, and if there ends up being any left over, put it toward giving our daughter a start. I know this is a big ask right now, right in the middle of this crisis, But if many of you can spare a few dollars to help lay Angela to rest, we would be so grateful. Thank you in advance for your help.
