Funeral Expenses for Nathan Godsey
Donation protected
As the family takes their time to grieve their loss of Nathan, I’ve offered to take up the responsibility of organizing this gofundme to help them cover all the unexpected expenses that go into properly honoring the life of Nathan Godsey and laying him to his eternal rest.
Having known Nathan closely for a decade, I know he wouldn’t have wanted this unexpected accident to cause such a burden on his loved ones. He was always one that would have rather gone with very little or even without than take advantage of others’ kindness.
I feel if he had been given the choice, he would have chosen the least burdensome option than to have made his family take up the cost of a proper funeral.
I personally experienced his commitment to this mentality several times over my time getting to know him as his brother-in-law. He never asked me for help, but the times I willingly gave it, he was always very appreciative and did what he could to help out and find ways to pay me back.
One of the last times I ever saw Nathan was at my birthday just a few weeks ago. He had been working a long shift and was unable to buy me a present before the get-together. Afterward, he left, and I didn’t think anything of it. To my surprise, he came back a bit later and rushed up the stairs with birthday gifts for my daughter (who has a birthday 3 days before me) and me.
The gift itself wasn’t much, but it was thoughtful and that was what made it special. All previous gifts from him up until then I’m pretty sure were just Skittles – which I also greatly appreciated. But this last present was different.
He had taken notice of something I often enjoy in life and picked something out that he thought would help me enjoy it more. And while I always appreciated the gifted Skittles, the thoughtfulness of this last gift reached me beyond the superficial act of gift-giving.
As he was leaving, he apologized for rushing up the stairs as it was near bedtime and I’m pretty sure my 13-year-old daughter (who was once afraid jaguars lived upstairs) thought there was a burglar. But he ended his apology by stating that he didn’t want us to have a birthday when he didn’t give us a gift.
To me, the consideration and persistence to make sure he gave back to me and my family on our birthdays was an unspoken appreciation and “Thank You” for all the times I’d helped him in the past.
I share that story because I want to impress on you the importance Nathan placed in his life to appreciate and give back to those that invested in him and to never be a burden on those he loved.
Whether he was overcoming or faltering in life’s struggles, I always saw him remain passionate about never being burdensome to his loved ones. And because of that, whether you knew Nathan personally, just know the family, or are unrelated entirely and just reading this by happenstance, I’d like to ask on Nathan’s behalf that you consider helping out his family in need and help Nathan’s life remain true til the end of always appreciating his loved ones and never being a burden.
All funds will first and foremost go to paying for funeral costs including the service, casket, grave plot, headstone, etc.
Additionally, there are potential medical and hospital bills related to the accident that could need to be paid.
And finally, if any funds remain after that, the family has expressed a desire to give his daughter Violet something that she can keep to immortalize his love for her and the fun times she spent with him.
Thank you for your prayers, love, and support during this time.
