Funeral Expenses for Steve Thomas

My name is Kathy Thomas, and Steve is my husband. Steve is 62 and has been in the nursing home for five months with early onset dementia. Within the last couple of weeks, Steve contracted Covid and passed away on July 12th. Steve always took care of our bills, and I was under the impression he had a life insurance policy. Sadly that is not the case. The funeral home insists that they receive the total amount for the cremation before they release his ashes to me. Any help you can give will be appreciated so I can bring my husband home. Thank you.
