Funeral Expenses Kathleen "Cass" Shaffer

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Candy Fraker, the daughter of Kathleen "Cass" Shaffer. Anyone who knows me knows I don't ask for help, especially financially. My dear mother passed away, and unfortunately, there isn't enough life insurance for her funeral. With my mother's illness/passing, I have learned to never take life for granted, have your wishes be known with your loved ones, and prepare for these unexpected expenses. I know no one likes to have talks with their parents about their wishes or what coverage they have as in life insurance. My mother was in a serious auto accident and miraculously walked away; however, I made her go to the hospital to get checked out for internal injuries that maybe we weren't seeing. Once there, we discovered she was in A-Fibrillation and was lacking oxygen. She had no idea, nor did she feel the A-fib rhythm with her heart. They began treatment and got it under control; they wanted to keep her for observation. Then more unknown issues were brought to light. We found out that on top of the COPD and Emphysema, she also had Pulmonary Fibrosis. Something that the Pulmonologist never told her in December. My mother's breathing/oxygen levels were too low for high flow oxygen; they tried the Bipap Mask. Her oxygen levels stayed steady for the first 24 hours then declined. The only thing left to do was intubation which she agreed. The Pulmonologist working with her in the hospital explained to my Brother and I that one lung was completely non-functioning, and a tiny part of the other lung was functioning. He explained there was a very slim chance she would pull thru with the venitaltor. Then they did a COVID test which was positive; however, this meant she contracted COVID while in the hospital because they tested her when she was first admitted, and it was negative. At this point, even with the ventilator, her oxygen levels were declining. The doctors then called a "Family Meeting" between my brother and I, and the three of the doctors. At this point, we were told there was absolutely nothing else they could do and that there was no chance of survival. We had to make the decision based on what we thought she would have wanted, and that was to not be kept alive by machines (which was failing at this point anyway). I was by her side until the very end. She was my best friend, my biggest supporter, my hero, my mom. I couldn't leave her side; she had to know I was there for her until the end. I know she is in a better place and without pain and reunited with the love of her life after a long 18 years without him, my Dad. With our hearts so heavy and minds at a loss, we now are struggling with how we will be able to pay for her funeral expenses. If I seriously wasn't in a difficult spot, I certainly would not be asking with this Go Fund Me. Please, any amount, little or small, is greatly appreciated. I pray every day for guidance in this situation and to lead me on the correct path to overcome this horrible situation. Please, if you can donate, I greatly appreciate it and Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
