Funeral for Rickey York

We sadly lost our favorite dishwasher at Santorini Family Restaurant in Cheviot on May 9th.  Rickey was struck by a car as he was coming to work and died.  After 30+ years of loyal service, his work family will be memorializing him as his next of kin could not be located.  

Rickey was the type of person that never knew a stranger.  Everyone he met instantly became his friend.  He always had a smile on his face and always made you laugh.  Rickey was quite the character.

He loved talking about sports, especially our home teams.  He knew everything about old-time music and shows. And let's not forget his wrestling!   He could come up with a clever pun at a moment's notice.

On his off day, he would ride the bus around town.  He'd go to visit his friend, Geraldine, or ride downtown to see all his other buddies.  Rickey probably knew every bus route (and maybe every bus driver in town).  I'm sure they all knew him!  And I'm betting on his way home, he stopped for his favorite meal......pepperoni pizza - well done. please.

Even at the restaurant, Rickey would stop what he was doing to cut up and talk with all the customers.  Rickey was a talker!  After 30 years, I believe he knew more customers than all of us servers combined.  Rickey will be deeply missed by co-workers and customers alike as well as everyone on his life's journey.  

Rickey was and will always be the best dishwasher & friend on the planet!   

The funds will help defer the following costs:

1.) Cost of cremation

2.) Resting place at the Bridgetown Cemetary (Due to the COVID-19 restrictions of 10 people group maximum there will be no                            service)

3.) We will work on having a Celebration of Life sometime after the restrictions are lifted.  We want all of Rickey's friends to be able to come together to remember him and tell about their encounters with him.  I'm sure there will be a lot of good stories heard!

4.) A Memorial Plaque that will forever be displayed at Santorini Family Restaurant.
