Dear Loved Ones,

I am writing to you today to let you know about the loss of our beloved Philamena Belone. Philamena fought Covid, until God chose to take her on Friday, December 11 at 11:55 pm.

Philamena's Legacy:

Philamena Belone was born to Elsie and Phillip Belone on October 20, 1976 at Rehoboth Mckinley Hospital in Gallup, New Mexico. She is survived by a brother, Phil Jr., a Sister, Phillana Morgan and three children. Recently, she was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter named Mila. During her elementary years she attended Tohatchi Public School. For High School, she attended Rehoboth Christian School and St. Catherine Private School in Sante Fe, NM. After High School she lived in Tucson, Arizona for a while, then returned home and worked at various places near Gallup, N.M. She always wanted to get her college education, so she moved to Albuquerque, NM. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at UNM on May 27, 2006. After she got her NM teacher’s license she taught for several years In Albuquerque Public Schools. Later, she moved to Ft. Wingate, to teach third graders and has been there for 8 years up to now. Her last tutoring was done while wearing her oxygen about a week ago. Her Principal, Dr. Edie Morris hired her because of the special gift she had working with behaviorally challenged students. She traveled from Albuquerque on Monday mornings to work, lived in Gallup during the week, then traveled home on Fridays. Her Mom would call her and she would say she was already at work by 7:30 am. She loved her students and love challenging them. She was very skillful with technology and used ZOOM to teach her students during this pandemic. Her Principal, Mr. Eric North said, that she is an awesome teacher with a special gift for teaching Art.

Her hobbies included: horse back riding, hunting, working on crafts, traveling, reading and watching movies.

She knew a lot of phrases in Navajo and loved talking to the Navajo Grandmas. She was sweet and would tickle her 90 year old grandma just to make her Grandma laugh. She was a tough lady and would chop wood, worked on fencing and refurbish her home furniture.

In high School, she ran Cross Country and was on the varsity team as a 9th grader. She earned many awards at cross country and track meets.

She loved God and always tried hard to grow spiritually. When times got hard, she would call Mom or Dad and ask for prayers. Prayers were sent promptly by Mom or Dad. She really appreciated the prayers.

The cutest story about Philamena was, when the movie, “Selena” came out, the little girls in Gallup thought she was Selena. They would run to her and say, “Selena”. She would just laugh and tell them she was not Selena.

As sick as she was, she joked and laughed under her oxygen mask. She made fun of herself because the nurses wouldn’t let her eat solid foods. She would say, I’m craving powdered donuts, make sure you all eat some for me.

She was Daddy’s girl and was spoiled by him. We will miss her dearly and will miss her sweet smile. She told us to take care of her children, her biological children and the children at her school.

We are absolutely devastated by Philamena’s passing.

Please consider donating if you are able to do so. We are so very grateful for every donation during this difficult time.
