Funeral & Medical Expenses for Samantha Corey
Donation protected
Friends and Neighbors of The Corey Family are organizing this fundraiser .
In April of 2022, at age 15, our sweet Samantha was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer-Rhabdomyosarcoma. After diagnosis, she immediately started an aggressive chemotherapy regimen and added every day radiation for 6 weeks in the midst of chemotherapy. She had weekly hospital admissions during her treatment, but did everything that was asked of her with a smile on her face.
She experienced a short period of time with clean scans, but her cancer came back and grew quickly and aggressively. Her doctors then started her on another chemotherapy regimen to help slow the growth of the tumors. This led to several more hospital admissions for treatment and neutropenic fevers. She finished her 2nd round of treatment and finally had a little break from all the hospital stays. She and her family used the time to make some amazing memories and go on some vacations.
While Samantha and her family were on a trip and away from home, she started to struggle to breathe. They learned the tumors in her lungs were growing rapidly and they knew she didn’t have much time left. After 2 ambulance rides and 1 life flight trip, she was able to get to a children’s hospital where after several days, they were able to stabilize her enough to get her (with a chest tube and an oxygen tank) on a commercial flight home.
Once arriving in Utah, Samantha was taken straight to see her usual team of doctors at Primary Children’s Hospital. There, they learned the heartbreaking news that there was nothing more they could do for her. The next day, she was able to go home, was placed on hospice care, and the following morning she passed away peacefully in her bed.
During the past two years Samantha has endured the unthinkable but amid this trial, she has been such a source of strength, light and beauty to all. Samantha’s mom said it best “I am grateful she came to earth and suffered these physical pains to be able to touch the lives of so many.”
As you can imagine, medical bills (both in network and out of network) and funeral expenses will add up for this family. Please consider donating to help relieve some of this financial burden.
