Fur baby with heart disease ♥️

Logan is my 2 year old fur baby. He showed up at my doorstep when he was 6 weeks old in need of food, shelter, and vetinarian care. He has taught me so much about trust, bravery and vulnerability. He is my registered emotional support animal and I look forward to seeing him at the end of a long and stressful day. Unfortunately, Logan was recently diagnosed with heart disease, specifically Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) secondary to Mitral Valve Dysplasia with Systolic Anterior Motion (SAM.) The Vetinarian Cardiologist said theres not much they can do for him other than slow down the progression of the disease with medication management and follow up echocardiograms. This news broke my heart, and sent me on a mission to learn more about heart disease and the possibility of a cure. I have exhausted myself with research and even contacted different vetinarians around the world! The only treatment available for animals with this specific type of heart disease is a very rare and expensive procedure, which at the moment is only being done for dogs. However, there have been several studies conducted on cats with HCM that show there are off label medications with promising results. Unfortunately, most of these trials are never carried out to the full extent because of funding issues. Without FDA approval, most vets arent willing to take the risk.
Logan is currently on the standard prescribed medications and will need follow up echocardiograms every three months to keep track of the changes in his heart. In addition to this, I was able to get him an off label medication that has shown to be promising in studies. He is also on a daily dose of holistic supplements, and recieves reiki every day! Logans condition is congenital, so pet insurance does not pay for the management of his disease. My hope is to raise money for Logans expenses, but my dream is to raise enough funds so that I can donate to research and clinical trials for feline cardiac disease.
