Furnace & Flooring at Rye House
Donation protected
The Rye House is an intentional community house and house of hospitality in South Minneapolis which sees A LOT of hard use. The community--8 members now--has been doing a weekly free open meal out of the house for over seven years. We have three rooms where people experiencing homelessness or transition, particularly LGBTQ people, can live rent free and with food provided for them. Sometimes up to 11 people have lived in the house at a time, sharing its kitchen and bathrooms and adding to the wear and tear.
And now we need help to repair the furnace and the kitchen and bathroom flooring on the main floor.
Just last week the furnace broke (right before winter! ack!), resulting in a surprise $860 bill. We need help paying that bill.
Secondly, we need to replace the kitchen and bathroom flooring. Currently, it is faux-wood laminate that cannot keep up with the moisture and foot-traffic in those highly used spaces. It is falling apart under our feet and soon will likely result in structural damage. We hope to raise the rest of the $5,000 goal and use that money to put in sturdy, durable, economical ceramic tile.
