Furzedown Project's minibus has been stolen - please help!

On Sunday 1 September the Furzdown Project's minibus was stolen from the disabled bay outside! This minibus is essential for so many of our members - helping people with restricted mobility get to our activities.

We will be renting a replacement bus from Wandsworth Community Transport, which costs £54 a day. This cost cannot be reclaimed from the insurance because there is not a third party to claim off, no option within the policy terms (insurance standard), additional cover was not taken out for this purpose.

The police and insurance company have been informed. Our Metropolitan Police Crime Reference Number is: 01/791779/24, please get in touch if you know anything that could help. The pay out from the insurance will happen when the police close the case. They cannot specify how long that will take and it is unlikely to cover the cost of a replacement minibus.

Last October this bus was badly damaged when an electrical junction box in the pavement outside The Project burst into flames next to it, the community was amazing and helped cover the costs... it's tragic that we are having to ask for help again but it really brought home how important having transport is!

We are now raising money towards a replacement.

It was over 10 years old - but without it, our the most isolated and vulnerable members will find it very difficult to get to the social and healthy activities we provide.

The Furzedown Project was started 50 years ago and is based at 91/93 Moyser Road, Furzedown SW16 6SJ, in the London Borough Wandsworth. It is an independent charity, registered number: 1076087.

We are proud to be an independent, self-help, user-led organisation - tackling isolation and loneliness amongst older people by providing a lively programme of social, educational, recreational and health-promoting activities (supported by our assisted transport service).
