Future Ancestors Waashayshkwun Grants
Donation protected
100% of proceeds collected through our GoFundMe account will be invested in the Waashayshkwun Grant Fund and funding process.
The Waashayshkwun Grants are awarded to Indigenous, Black, racialized, LGBTQ2S+, and disabled independent service providers based in what is now known as Canada. Despite facing disproportionate barriers, they continue to centre climate justice and equity in their education, lives, and services. These grants are intended to provide the recipients with financial relief and with the opportunity to invest in their business development.
'Waashayshkwun' means 'the sky is clear' in Michif-Cree. By distributing grants for financial relief and business development to independent contractors, we aim to clear their skies as they're clearing Mother Earth's. Learn how to say 'waashayshkwun' with proper pronunciation here .

Grant recipients will be selected by a Future Ancestors Review committee following a holistic assessment model informed by Indigenous ways of knowing (the Relational Model for Teaching and Learning is informed by Blackfoot teachings), equity, anti-ageist, and accessibility lenses.
The grant cycles will be triggered in January and February 2021. Future Ancestors Services Inc. currently collects funds through donation tickets on events, through e-transfers to [email redacted], and through this GoFundMe account.
About Future Ancestors Services Inc.
Future Ancestors Services is an Indigenous and Black-owned, youth-led professional services social enterprise that advances climate justice and equity with a lens of anti-racism and ancestral accountability. While centering decolonized and Indigenized practices, we support our clients and community in addressing systemic issues that disadvantage groups of people, our connections to land and others, and the well-being of Earth.
Through an intergenerational team of professionals and advisors, we provide speaking, training, research, and consulting services to diverse clients. We specialize in accessible, anti-ageist, anti-racist, and transformational service delivery.
In addition to our professional services, we also support community by providing resources through the Future Ancestors Collective; providing a platform through the Future Ancestors Constellation; and by organising donation-collecting skill-building events.
We are based in Calgary, the traditional territory of Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, and the traditional homeland of the Métis Nation (Treaty 7).
