Hello everyone my name is Brittany Erickson, I am my dad's middle child of three and I would like to thank you for taking some time to read what I have to say about him.
These last few years from 2020 to 2023 my Dad has been in a battle with his body. Doug was known for being a hard worker and for being hands-on. He worked various labor jobs; from factory work to roofing, and helping in maintaining a golf course. My Dad worked hard, but he also was known for playing hard too. Doug loved being around the water, especially with a fishing pole in his hands, and from what I've been told he would never leave the dock, fishing pole in hand and worms in his pockets. I believe all of us children have a distinct memory of him teaching us how to fish or taking us fishing. My dad was a faithful fan of the Vikings and even though he was disappointed every season he still held on to hope with his son Leevi during Sunday games. He also enjoyed baseball, hockey, golf, and basketball. I remember Dad showing all three of us how to hit and throw a baseball. My dad had various hobbies one of which was golf. He enjoyed spending a lot of time at the golf course and participating in tournaments. He loved visiting and getting together with family and friends. Doug was gifted five beautiful grandchildren between my sister and I. (James, Perry, Isabelle, Wyatt, and Aubrey) Three of which he was able to watch them grow and get to know them to some degree. Unfortunately, because of my dad's declining health prevented him and made it almost impossible for him to go anywhere or do anything that he use to enjoy. In the last few years, his quality of life was not great and most of us knew he was miserable for various reasons. On July 18th, Doug was admitted to the hospital for some internal bleeding.
No one really knows when the last time you see or speak to a loved one that's it going to be the last time. I had planned to see him Saturday, July 29th with my daughter. On July 24th, my Aunt Coral called to inform me his heart stopped and they had performed CPR, but my dad finally had enough. Everything in his body was either shut down or was shutting down. My dad was done fighting his disease. And he was done living in a constant state of pain. The following day my siblings and I as well as most of my dad's siblings said our goodbyes as he had his final breaths that were provided by the hospital machines.
Unfortunately, my dad did not have much he had enough to get by each day, but because of his health, my dad was not able to work for two to three years and was dependent on whatever county assistance he qualified for. The family and I are asking for donations for any of his remaining health bills he may have left us that the insurance won't cover, along with wanting to give him a plot and stone for anyone he knew to visit with him. I want to thank you again for taking the time in reading what I've written I know my dad would appreciate it as well and at this point, anything will help.
