Help Rodney Pay off his Medical Debt

Hey everyone, as you may know I have a genetic blood disorder called sickle cell anemia. With this illness, my red blood cells can deform and block normal blood flow to every part of my body, causing “sickled” shaped cells and intense pain. The pain is so intense that I do not really know how to explain how badly it feels. Back in June I decided to move north to Georgia with my girlfriend so she could finish her last two years in college while I finished my last semester online. At first I was doing just fine, but once the cold weather and cold/flu season came around my physical and mental health has been dramatically decreasing. Cold weather can trigger a sickle cell crisis (where cells become deformed) and can occur suddenly. I caught the flu the day after Halloween and without a stable insurance my hospital bill was surprising. Working full time throughout college was very challenging even with support from family. On top of that, transitioning into adulthood and adult doctors care was and is still another challenge since this illness is rare and there are not many hematologists in my area that I am comfortable going to. I’ve always been into health and fitness and like to stay as healthy as possible but when i fall into a crisis it’s hard to stay on track. I have already tried to cut out red meats, avoid cold weather, and make sure I am taking my daily medications so I can keep my health in optimal condition, but dealing with the stress of working full time and being away from home makes it all more challenging. After I recovered from the flu, I developed a swollen jaw from my two wisdom teeth becoming infected and now half of my chin is still numb to this day. This occurred the week of Thanksgiving and since I was not able to see a dentist that same day I had to go to an urgent care where I was overcharged for checking my jaw and given some oxygen so I could be told that I was fine and sent home with a $1,000 bill. Lastly on Dec 28 I tested positive for covid 19 and believe I was exposed in the hospital. I went to the emergency room three times before I was finally able to get admitted and one of those times I had to get an ambulance just so they took my pain seriously enough (and still had to wait over five hours just to get any pain medication.) During my nine day stay I was physically and mentally exhausted. I could barely get up to go to the restroom and one of the nurses told me the doctor wouldn’t give me pain meds if I didn’t eat even though I had no appetite. I also got my wallet stolen the day I was discharged. I was moved from my room because of a “leaking” shower and my wallet was on top of the table where my food was. The nurse and care nurse said it could’ve accidentally gotten thrown out but my mon was informed that they do not throw anything away and I find it hard to believe that someone “accidentally” throws away a wallet. Turn out they lied and I had multiple fraudulent charges on both my chase debit and credit cards. I called the hospital security a few days later and they were absolutely no help and even made it seem like nothing was gonna happen and they didn’t care. This overall hospital experience not only drained me spirit but also my pockets. I was not able to pick up any of my pain medication because I didn’t have my ID but was lucky enough that my parents drove up and were able to pick it up. All funds received from this fundraiser will be going straight to my three hospital bills which are at John Hopkins, Memorial Health and St. Joseph’s Chandler Hospital. Thanks for taking out the time to read this and I appreciate you all
