Goat Fund Me

The Capra Farm
Six years ago, we adopted four 2-week-old male goats from a farmer who bought them from a market auction with the intention of selling them for meat. We now care for 24 goats of a variety of breeds – 4 does and 20 wethered males. Most of our goats have genetic traits which are undesirable to goat breeders. Therefore, they were destined to be sold for meat or put down. We have rescued goats from various situations – from farmers downsizing their herds, to goats that were neglected, over bred, or had medical issues. Last November we rescued Anna who lost her back legs to frostbite and her front legs are in a permanent contracted position. You can read Anna’ story here and learn more about our farm. (Small correction to the article, Anna lost 20 pounds and now weighs 120 pounds.)

Since April 2020, 7 of our goats have required medical attention at New Bolton Veterinary Center, Kennett Square, PA. Appa needed emergency surgery for a urinary blockage, Boermir had to have a blood transfusion due to anemia (Zuko was the donor) then Anna, Ozai and Zuko needed surgery to remove abscesses. It is now mid-August and we currently have two goats at New Bolton, Momo & Zuko. Momo is there because of a urinary blockage that required emergency surgery. During surgery his heartrate dropped, and they had to stop before the full procedure was completed. One of the stones moved to an area which cannot be operated on. Poor Momo now must wait until the stone moves again to a place, they can safely remove it. Zuko is recovering from his surgery and is keeping Momo company.
In 4 months, our veterinary bills have reached $10,000 (and counting until Momo comes home). We are asking for help to offset these costs so that we may continue to rescue goats and give them the love and care they deserve.
Thank you for considering helping our goats!
