Memorial Bench for Mary Ketter Davis
Donation protected
In 1998, when Mary first became a Kairos volunteer, Kairos was only active in one female prison in North Carolina. However, after Mary's leadership as state chair, Kairos was active in three women's prisons.
In celebration of the life and legacy of Mary Ketter Davis, we invite you to sponsor a Prayer Bench at the women's prison in Swannanoa, NC. Mary was the advising leader, in 2017, when she established this community. The Prayer Bench will be placed near the Chapel.
This bench was the brainchild of AKT Trainer, Paul Soriano. The bench is being handcrafted by male Kairos graduates in Union Prison in Raiford, Florida. The first Cursillo in prison was held at Union Prison which later became Kairos. This Prayer Bench will have Mary's name, birthdate, entrance into heaven date, Kairos symbol, and her life verse which was;
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21
The residents (inmates) are normally paid $.50 an hour but for this out of state project, they will be paid $13.00. A percentage of the purchase will be donated to the Victims' Restitution Fund in D.C. The bench will cost $779.25 so we are raising $1,000 to cover the cost of a contractor to install the bench in concrete at Swannanoa.
We thank Marcia and Dulce for working with the prison to get the official’s approval to place this bench on the prison’s grounds. Thank you to Nan for securing a contractor to get this bench installed. There will be a dedication for the bench in the spring.
