Support for Elizabeth

Hi, our dear friend Adrienne help restart the Grace Pascoe Care Centre Food Bank an agency of Daily Bread food bank at Calvary on Main. We have been fortunate to meet so many beautiful people experiencing food insecurity who show us how to live authentically with dignity and grace.

Last night, Alicia and I had the opportunity to meet Elizabeth, a beautiful woman from Kenya. She is a mom of little kids who are back home in Kenya with her husband. She can’t wait for them to be reunited eventually.

Elizabeth arrived on July 21 to Canada seeking refuge but has been living without shelter, food or money. She is experiencing the effects of a broken system for refugees.

A few of us from Grace Pascoe are working to help her with essentials that can bridge her to the support she deserves.

Right now, she needs money for food, shelter, and a way to communicate.

My friend told me that the most helpful thing refugees/newcomers can receive (especially when coupled with a local support network) is money. The ability to make decisions and pay for things themselves is so important in maintaining dignity.

Last night, after Alicia and I spent time with her trying to help her find shelter and gave her a hug, she said thank you for treating me like I matter.
