Support for Summer
Donation protected
Dear friends, colleagues, family and kind-hearted acquaintances of Summer,
In the last weeks, our friend Summer has been diagnosed with an inoperable cancer and given just a few months to live. We would like to support her and her family, husband Robin and son Emmett, as they face the devastating prognosis and seek out life-prolonging treatments.
Some of you may recall a few years ago Summer was diagnosed with bladder cancer. The cancer, called Squamous Cell Carcinoma, is rare, very invasive, unresponsive to Chemotherapy and there are very limited treatment options. At that time Summer underwent intensive surgery to remove her bladder. We all thought everything would be ok.
Earlier this year, at a check-up for an unrelated matter, it became clear that the cancer had returned and moved to Summer’s lung.
Doing everything she could to fight this disease, Summer once again bravely underwent surgery. During the operation surgeons removed half of her left lung and some lymph nodes.
Last week it became clear that the cancer has progressed to the rest of Summer’s lung and treatment options available will be to prolong her life not save it.
Treatment Plan
Summer, a fighter as ever, is preparing to enrol herself onto The Aurora Clinical Trial in Southampton. There’s a short video on the website:
which explains the objective of the clinical trials and the clinical process very simply and clearly.
The hope from the clinical trials is that they will offer some relief to Summer and give her some more time.
Should the clinical trials not agree with Summer then, as a last resort, she will undergo Chemotherapy. Chemo has a 20% chance that it could give Summer more time to cherish with her family.
What can we do to help?
Thoughts and prayers are appreciated but we are also asking what we can all do to help.
During these times, and especially when a worker in the family is unable to provide, easing the financial pressure is a practical way to assist.
We would like to ask you kind souls, if you are able, to make a donation to this GoFundMe page. However small or large it will provide Summer and Robin the chance to worry less at this difficult time.
Let’s rally round and minimize at least one of the stresses of this horrible situation.
Thank you
PS: Please do be aware that when donating GoFundMe will take a small percentage of your donation, however we all feel at this stage this is the best platform for us to use now.
