K9 Jax's Emergency Vet Bill!!
Donation protected
On 05/17/2017 around 4pm, Jax showed signs of distress. After playing fetch with his ball while at home on his day off, he began to lose his ability to stand. He was panting heavily and began to drool/slobber a lot. He was wobbly while standing and would trip over his front feet and fall when he was trying to walk. Since it was 85+ degrees and sunny, I thought maybe he was over heating. Jax has a huge play drive and doesn't know when to take a break from playing when his toy is involved! Not knowing much about animals, I gave him a big gallon bucket of fresh water and took the hose and soaked him with water trying to cool his temperature in case he was overheating. Jax drank about 2 maybe 3 gallons of water within a short period of time. I put him in the car and rushed him to SC Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Care. He was immediately taken back and given fluids and x rays. Jax drank too much water for the x rays to get solid images. Jax was mildly sedated and a tube was inserted through his mouth and a lot of fluid was removed. Further x rays showed his spleen was swollen and possibly shifted. The veterinarian suggested Jax was having a heat stroke and drank more water than his body could handle. Thankfully his stomach didn't turn causing him to be diagnosed with Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus. It is also commonly referred to as bloat or gastric torsion. This would've required surgery.
Jax is being held over night and given more fluids because he is dehydrated. More x rays will be done in the morning and hopefully he can come home to recover.
The ER bill is estimated at just under $1,800, if no further treatment is required. Like everyone else I'm sure, money is tight. Jax and I work together for a small town police department in South Carolina. Jax is owned by me. Since the medical emergency did not occur on duty, the bill is my responsibility. I figured I would create this gofundme to see if I could get any financial assistance from anyone who may be able to help or may have experienced an unexpected bill and can relate. Any dollar amount would be a huge help and would go straight to paying off the vet bill. Any extra would go to follow up appointments and future yearly vet appointments or medical needs.
If you can't donate, please share the link so that someone else may read it who can donate a few bucks!
Thank you for your support!
