Support for Barrett McKim

My Nephew Barrett McKim, a 12-year-old homeschool student, has burned over 50% of his body due to an explosion in the family home in Highlands, North Carolina.

Barrett has a love for science and has performed many experiments. He is known for being cautious, as evidenced by the goggles he was wearing while performing the experiment. On

Thursday, June 23, 2022, his experiment involving isopropyl alcohol ignited, causing him and his mother to battle the flames that ultimately engulfed him. They tried in vain to remove the synthetic shirt he was wearing. Barrett’s neck, torso, arms, hands and thighs have second and third-degree burns.

His mother, Caroline, sustained terrible burns on both hands but managed to save Barrett’s life. She called 911 and continued to spray water on Barrett until the ambulance arrived. Barrett was flown by helicopter to the Augusta burn center, where doctors say that he must have many surgeries involving skin grafts. Caroline has an equally daunting prognosis. The hospital will be home for Barrett and his parents for weeks, if not months!! Praying that the Lord will continue to heal skin…and that all will be amazed by a healing that is beyond what they think is humanly possible.

Background- Barrett is the second born of 5 children to Kyle and Caroline McKim. He has been a memory master in classical conversations, their homeschooling curriculum for the last three years.

He plays the piano and violin. He enjoys archery and fishing
