Care Kits for the Homeless

Donation protected
Hey everyone!

My name is Mollie Tobey. As the holidays are approaching, I started to think of those who would not be receiving gifts, may not have friends and family to spend it with, and may not even have a warm place to sleep or wake up on Christmas morning. So, I decided to do something about it.

I first heard of the idea and made “caring kits” or “blessing bags” at Fitchburg State University through a community service project that we organized through Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society, Epsilon Beta chapter. Now that I have graduated and moved to Boston I decided it’s time to bring care kits to Boston and make it even bigger scale! But in order to do that I need all of your help!

This time, I will be organizing the project through an organization called Friends of Boston Homeless, a non-profit organization that helps individuals who are homeless get off the streets and into shelters and eventually out of shelters to lead stable independent lives. The link to their website is here: http://www.fobh.org/about/ I will specifically be donating the blessing bags to the 112 Southampton Shelter in South Boston run by the Boston Public Health Commission.

All of the money that I raise will go to purchasing essential items that are especially needed this time of year such as socks, hats, mittens, underwear, hand warmers, non-perishable food items such as granola bars, toothpaste, deodorant, lip balm, hand lotion, etc. All of these items will be combined in bags for each individual. My goal is at least $500 because that way I can make 100 bags with 5 things in each one, however, if we can raise more than that than each individual can have other essential items in their bag that they need.

I would like to deliver the care kits to the shelter around the holidays, although depending on how long it takes to raise the money it might end up being right after the New Year. But I will keep you guys posted on the status and delivery!

I would be so thankful for your donation to my project, but even more so the people who would receive these that are living with so little would be the most thankful. Sometimes everyone needs a little help to get started, so I ask that you get in the REAL Christmas spirit and be that help for someone this holiday season.

Thank you all and I appreciate your help in making a difference!!!
