Hi and thank you for taking the time to read Joe’s story.
Joe is a very special person with a intelligent joyful attitude, and a tendency for strong political opinions (as his Facebook friends know). He is a self-employed landscaper and gardener and has done this physically demanding labor for more than 20 years. It has brought him great joy. In mid October, he began to suffer soreness in his wrist and back, and had trouble doing certain aspects of his job. He then unexpectedly developed a severe pain in his back. He thought he had somehow slipped a disk. He was unable to do any work, had to stay home, and was not caring for himself. He was convinced by his friends to go to the emergency room, and there it was discovered he had a severe Staphylococcus infection that had seeded in his wrist, shoulder, on his ribs, and near his spine. He was very sick. He was admitted to and had to remain in the hospital for 8 days. He underwent emergency surgery three times to remove bacteria and infected tissue in the sites where the infection had invaded his body.
Including the four days before his hospital stay, Joe was bedridden for 12 days. This resulted in a significant loss of physical strength and on-going challenges for him to care for himself. AS a result, he is currently in a convalescent home, still on antibiotics, and receiving physical therapy. Occupational therapy may need to be considered to help him regain the full use of his shoulder and wrist. His hospital and convalescence have directly impacted his income, and this has affected his ability to meet his co-payments and ancillary medical expenses.
Anyone who knows about Staphylococcus infection understands that Joe will face a long, tough road to recovery even with his personal courage and uniquely endearing attitude. Joe will have to endure many challenges in the months ahead.
There are many deserving causes looking to raise money with the help of this amazing site. If Joe’s story does resonate with you, please consider donating to help with his on-going medical bills and other subsequent expenses. Any donation to help Joe address his mounting monetary difficulties is appreciated.
Thank you.
