HELP SAVE THE FAMILY FARM

All 92-year-old Doreen Koch wants is to make her own decision about the fate of her home. In 2020, while he was dying of end-stage liver failure, Doreen's only child signed a contract to sell her property. Doreen didn't authorize the sale nor was she consulted. While she was grieving the loss of her son, she learned she was being sued by the developer to complete the sale. Like many seniors, Doreen is on a fixed, low monthly income. Her three-year legal battle has cost Doreen over $100,000. The process has exhausted her modest savings, sunk her into debt and taken a major toll on her physical and mental health. This vulnerable senior just learned that she will face additional costs of up to $100,000 to defend herself at a second trial. Doreen has been taken advantage of, abused and bullied. If you are outraged by the injustice of her predicament, she could use your support to pay her lawyer bills.

In 1990, Doreen moved back to the ten-acre farm in the Okanagan where she grew up. Doreen's property serves as a floodplain for the picturesque village of Lumby, helping reduce floodwaters that damage local homes and businesses and filtering groundwater for those in the area who rely on wells. Her land also provides habitat to wildlife such as otters, pheasants, beavers, deer and many species of birds. Doreen wants this family jewel to remain in its pristine state. Friends of Doreen ask you to please send whatever you can afford so she will have the resources she needs to make her dream come true.
