This fundraiser initiative is set up to give Laura Daniela Gonzalez Preuss a chance of surviving from a major brain stroke that left her in a coma while traveling alone in Thailand.

The news comes as a shock to all of us who've been lucky enough to come across her tireless generosity and loyal friendship, be it in Argentina, Barcelona, or along her many travels throughout Asia. A super friend and a super host, Daniela is one of those people who make you feel at home whether you're a longtime friend or a newly come visitor. For decades, her terrace in Barcelona has been a crossroads of people coming from the seven corners of the world, meeting and becoming friends while sharing Argentinian "asado" under the starlit sky.

Three months ago, Daniela decided to travel to Koh Phangan, a small island off Ko Samui, in Thailand, where she was going to participate to a project related to tourism and sustainability. Sadly, her experience came to a sudden halt on the night of November 1st when she was woken up by an excruciating headache.

Daniela reached the local hospital at Koh Phangan but doctors there were unable to help. Due to the gravity of the case, she was transferred to the private Bangkok Hospital on the bigger island of Ko Samui, the closest medical facility capable of performing the needed surgery. During that time she lost consciousness and has not woken up since.

Though it took over 20 hours before Daniela could undergo surgery, the operation is said to have gone well. As of now, she remains in a coma, though she has given signs of reacting to stimuli. Doctors are providing her with artificial breathing not to exhaust her body but she is able to breathe on her own, which in itself is a small victory. Now it's just a matter of waiting and hoping while she remains in intensive care.

Sadly, Daniela is not covered for receiving private care, but we managed (thanks to many of you) to pay the bill for her first 2 weeks’ treatment (almost €40 000) before moving her to a public hopistal on Nov 17 (Samui Hospital - see update).

Daniela does not have a partner nor children and her relatives in Argentina cannot cover the costs of the growing bill.

Now that her condition is stable the new challenge is to get her home!!

So while we try to figure out a way forward with the embassies or any other 3rd party, we need your help.

This campaign is an opportunity for all of those who've been impacted by Daniela's kindness to give back at this time of need. If you would like to assist with the financial burden, any donation would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to Daniela's medical costs and related travel expenses while she fights to make it through.

VERSIÓN ESPAÑOLA

Queridos amigos de Daniela,

Esta iniciativa de recaudación de fondos está diseñada para darle a Laura Daniela Gonzalez Preuss una posibilidad de sobrevivir a un ataque cerebral que la dejó en coma mientras viajaba sola en Tailandia.

La noticia nos sacude a todos los que hemos tenido la suerte de toparnos con su incansable generosidad y su profunda amistad, ya sea en Argentina, Barcelona o en sus muchos viajes por Asia. Una súper amiga y súper anfitriona, Daniela es una de esas personas que te hacen sentir como en casa - no importa si eres un viejo amigo o un visitante recién llegado. Durante décadas, su terraza en Barcelona ha sido una encrucijada de personas procedentes de los siete rincones del mundo, que se han conocido y convertidos en amigos compartiendo asado argentino bajo el cielo estrellado.

Hace tres meses, Daniela decidió viajar a Koh Phangan, una pequeña isla cerca de Ko Samui, Tailandia, para participar a un proyecto relacionado con turismo y sostenibilidad. Lamentablemente, su expriencia allá se detuvo repentinamente la noche del 1 de noviembre cuando se despertó con un dolor de cabeza insoportable.

Daniela llegó al hospital local en Koh Phangan, pero los médicos no pudieron ayudarla. Debido a la gravedad del caso, fue trasladada al Bangkok Hospital en la isla más grande de Ko Samui, la instalación médica más cercana capaz de realizar la cirugía necesaria. Durante ese tiempo perdió el conocimiento y desde entonces no ha vuelto a despertarse.

Aunque pasaran más de 20 horas antes de que Daniela pudiera ser operada, se dice que la operación fue exitosa. Sin embargo permanece en coma, aunque haya dado señales de reaccionar a los estímulos. De momento los médicos le están proporcionando respiración artificial para no agotar a su cuerpo, pero ella puede respirar por sí misma, lo cual es una pequeña victoria. Ahora no nos queda más que esperar y rezar mientras permanezca en terapia intensiva.

Lamentablemente, Daniela no tiene cobertura en este hospital, y la factura ya asciende a más de € 40 000. No tiene pareja o hijos y sus familiares en Argentina no pueden cubrir los gastos médicos que seguirán sumándose. Por lo tanto, mientras busquemos soluciones con las embajadas, Daniela necesita su ayuda.

Esta campaña es una oportunidad para ayudar a una amiga que ha impactado a muchos con sus bondad en un momento de grande dificultad. Si desean contribuir en aliviar la carga financiera, cualquiera donación será muy apreciada. Todos los fondos recaudados serán utilizados para pagar el cuidado de Daniela y los gastos de viaje relacionados, para que pueda seguir luchando para salir adelante.

En nombre de todas las personas que la quieren, apreciamos el derramamiento de amor, las oraciones y el apoyo que han demostrado en los últimos días y que, sin duda, seguirán en los próximos meses.
